They say that dog is man's best friend and it would be very difficult to argue against this statement with many millions of pets and working dogs around the world. If you are considering a Bichon as a pet or already have a Bichon and want to know more information, then this is the web site for you.

If you are getting a dog for the first time then you should be aware of the substantial amount of time, health care costs, and long term love that you will require to give to have a healthy and happy pet. Bichon Frise dogs make lovable little pets and if you are considering one as your pet then you should read the following do's and don'ts

Good points of owning a Bichon

Small and sturdy and does not require much exercise

Does not shed its coat (good for allergy sufferers)

Makes a good watch dog but is not aggressive

            Good with other pets

Looks lovely when clipped and groomed

Downsides of owning a Bichon

Requires a lot of brushing and combing

            Can be difficult to housetrain

Does not like to be left on it's own for long periods

Can be prone to barking a lot

May be suspicious at times of young children

Can be stubborn with a mind of its own and more difficult to train

Can be prone to skin problems

Can be prone to knee problems

Of course, not all Bichons exhibit all of the above - you can get exceptions to the rule, but these are what you should keep in mind when talking to a potential breeder. Ask about your puppies' pedigree, family history problems and any problems with parents etc.
