Selecting a potential show dog - Refer to the breed standard
Rely heavily on an experienced breeder who has reputation for breeding winning showdogs
Look for show potential up to 4/5 months old then make a decision whether to show or not
Puppy or adult dog?
If looking for a showdog then the purchase of a young adult provides a greater degree of certainty with respect to breed requirements. If looking for a family companion, older people often prefer an older dog which is already housebroken and les prone to chewing and other bad habits. However, older dogs may have developed behaviours and routines which may take some time to change.
Young puppies give you the opportunity to train the dog in obedience and routines that fit in with your long term wishes. |
